The SatSafe Register is a voluntary initiative that helps those responsible for fleet vehicles to manage safer, more efficient fleets whilst improving public perception and customer satisfaction.
Designed for use by managers and operators of school minibuses, coaches, trucks, taxi cabs and other public service vehicles, to publicise the fact that they have adopted telematics technologies into their vehicles in order to improve their operational safety, better manage their resources and reduce environmental impact by lowering their vehicles’ emissions.
Example 1. The School Minibus
Every day there are tens of thousands of minibuses dashing around our roads transporting children and young people to off-site curriculum activities whether they be sporting, recreational or other learning outside the classroom (LOTC) activities and school trips. Often, these school minibuses are delayed en route back to the school/college and inevitably, the switchboard is overwhelmed with a high level of telephone calls from worried parents and carers. Until now!
With a telematics equipped vehicle, the physical characteristics, i.e. harsh acceleration or braking, speeding or excessive idling are constantly monitored and where necessary, alerts sent via text and or email to the office manager. Third party telematics service providers can also send instant notification of a severe impact in order to establish early intervention by the emergency services as necessary. With a simple to use online dashboard, users can see how different drivers perform against the above parameters which can assist with identifying additional driver training needs specific to the type of vehicles being driven.
Additional benefits of SatSafe telematics solutions include the ability for parents to log-in to our app, enter their unique code provided by the school and receive real-time notifications of ETA for a specific vehicle. For security reasons, we do not share the actual location of the vehicle other than with the school management. This feature also saves time and costs of wasted journeys for parents travelling to and from the school to collect their children.
SatSafe has partnered with Europe’s largest Insurers to offer lower cost, specialist telematics insurance: SatSafeBUS designed for school, college and university vehicles.
Example 2. Local Taxi Services
There are approximately 300,000 taxi or Public Hire Vehicle (PHV) driver licenses in England and Wales alone with 316 licensing authorities in England and Wales (lower tier local authorities, and Transport for London). Taxi operators often complain at having to pay high insurance premiums but this is based on their risk profiles determined by Insurers.
Each SatSafe equipped cab is constantly monitored by us for erratic driving and alerts are sent to the owner/operator in real time. The main purpose is to reduce the risk of accidents associated with harsh acceleration, braking or speeding as well as significantly reducing environmental impact and other operating costs due to reduced maintenance bills.
The benefits to fleet operators are that they are able to see at a glance in a driver ‘league table’ which drivers present the highest levels of risk and suggest remedial or preventative action by way of driver awareness training. ‘Top Driver’ awards based schemes can also be built into a system to encourage an ethos of safer, better driving that is not only good for road safety and the environment – but also good business.
SatSafe has partnered with Europe’s largest Insurers to offer lower cost, specialist telematics insurance: SatSafeCAB designed for taxis and PHVs as well as providing a complete crash management service getting you back on the road and earning as quickly as possible.
The SatSafe Register is open to all our telematics users whether hard wired, OBDII plugs or dongles. We do not currently support app-based telematics on mobile phones due to their unreliability and reliance on user behaviour as well as the mechanical differences between each phone manufacturer.
